Laptops for schoolchildren in Sumy, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions from the UAE

The UAE government has provided nearly 5,000 laptops for Ukrainian schoolchildren.

All digital devices will be distributed to students in grades 5-11 from vulnerable categories in the Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions as part of the Device Coalition.

Providing students in these communities with devices was extremely important because they currently only have the option to study online.

"The greatest need for devices (over 3,000) this time will be met by the Olena Zelenska Foundation together with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Digital Transformation in the Sumy region. Konotop, Shostka, Sumy, and Okhtyrka are the districts that are currently suffering daily shelling, where children are forced to study exclusively online. Providing students with the opportunity to study despite the war is the main goal of our Device Coalition. I thank the government of the United Arab Emirates for their consistent support of Ukrainian education," says Nina Horbachova, Director of the Foundation.

Today, almost 300,000 Ukrainian schoolchildren don’t have access to education due to the lack of a laptop or tablet.

"The new batch of devices for Ukrainian schoolchildren is a tangible result of the Device Coalition, which continues its work. Through the joint efforts of states, international partners and charitable foundations, we are moving step by step towards providing all students and teachers with the necessary digital tools for an uninterrupted educational process," said Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science.

The development and support of Ukrainian education are the unchanged priorities of the Olena Zelenska Foundation. By the time the Device Coalition was created, the Foundation had already managed to attract nearly 50,000 educational devices from partners.

For reference: The Device Coalition's mission is to meet the critical need for devices for children and teachers in 10 regions where distance learning is currently prevalent. The need for devices this year is nearly 100,000 for children and 30,000 for teachers.

The UAE government actively supports not only the educational projects of Olena Zelenska Foundation. For example, in 2023 the UAE became a donor to the "Room for Childhood" project. Partners funded the construction of 10 houses for large foster families affected by the war. The country's government also supports the Foundation's projects in the field of healthcare. Currently, we have jointly provided Ukrainian doctors with 50 ambulances.
